Hi! I’m Professor Lillian Cerqueira. I was born in Livingston, NJ and grew up in Newark. My Portuguese roots come from a beautiful town called Arcos de Valdevez in Minho, Portugal. Growing up, I attended Wilson Avenue School and graduated from East Side High School in Newark. During this time, I also attended the Luis de Camões School of Portuguese in Newark where I had the opportunity to form many friendships with other students from the Portuguese community. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and was certified as a teacher by the Urban Teacher Education Program at Rutgers University. While at Rutgers, I also majored in Portuguese and learned more about the history and literature of Portugal. I furthered my studies by completing a Master’s degree at Ramapo College in Educational Administration. In my spare time, I love to sing, dance, travel and complete Escape Rooms! My biggest passion, however, is teaching. I currently teach Maths in Elizabeth, NJ and Portuguese for Grades 1 and 2 alongside the ELPU family.
